Homemade Paint
Our society is based mostly on consuming and less on manufacturing the necessary products. Supermarkets can make everyones life easier because they offer everything for a certain price of course. So women wont waste time measuring flour, sugar and butter necessary for baking a special cake, because the special cake is on the shelves at the bakery. Your granny doesnt have to knit socks or pullovers, because she can buy all kinds of clothes at the shop. It is also habitual for a decorator to pay a visit at the handymans store to buy the materials needed for painting a house.
Our ancestors made their own paint starting from flour. They added natural pigments to it to embellish their homes. Everybody used to know how to obtain paint from ingredients at hand.
Today there are smaller categories of persons who accept making their own paint. They can buy materials from ceramic material suppliers and mix them in the right amounts. Clay or other materials can be the basis for paint. For example clay paint is made of the following: wheat, rice, rye, or potato flour; water, powdered clay and inert powder filler. Another homemade paint is milk paint or casein paint. It consists of curds, lime putty, water and pigment. These paints are usually made by artists because they can be adapted to the imagination of the artist.
Children are also very fond of making paint. Their creativity is highly stimulated by bringing together and mixing the ingredients for their paint. They enjoy very much using this paint in their artistic projects. The materials they use in creating paint are very funny; for example they can make paint out of : soap flakes , with water and liquid starch. Or they can mix powdered milk, water and powdered tempera for pigment. Many of these paints are harmless even when ingested.
Homemade paint is characteristic for artistic works or children creative projects. Nevertheless when it comes to practical use, homemade paint may not be very reliable. Instead for major house painting projects one can always use normal paint. Even in babies rooms decorating some of the paints in stores prove to be the ideal choice because they are no longer associated with the idea that paint smells.
