You Can Still Make Plants Flower In Winter With HPS Grow Lights

Winter blooms, winter vegetables, winter health. There’s just no stopping the miracles that the HPS grow lights can give when it comes to providing luxurious flowers and most importantly freshly grown vegetables in the middle of winter. This is especially true with countries that have suffered for eons simply because they could not see the sun rise for the next 6 months.

With hydroponics, there is no need for soil, only solutions from mineral nutrients where the roots can take nourishment either with the solutions alone or some with gravel or perlites, some with mineral wool and coir. To make hydroponics work properly, synthetic sunlight is needed to make the plants vegetate, flower and bloom.

What make HPS grow lights effective indoors is that it gives off more of the yellow and red range similar to sunshine. These are especially effective for the whole life of the plant especially when used with metal halides (MH) light. The HPS also lasts longer at 833.333 days of continuous use than the MH lights. As HPS lights have a tendency to be intense, reflectors and ballasts will be needed to check or contain the emanations and the currents flowing.

One thing that the HPS lights needs though is to work in conjunction with LED lights which are the only ones that can provide the much needed blue spectrum that will complete the red, white and blue which is almost the same as the sunlight, but for much longer periods.

There is increasing demand and use of HPS grow lights all over the world especially with the awareness of polluted soil. Most in need are the countries that have to get their fresh veggies year round, even if the sun does not rise for the next six months like in Antarctica. Downside, only high voltage is the only way to continue using these lights; however, this is negligible compared to having no fresh vegetables.
